See the City
A few of our favorite ways to wander around and see what makes Portland so special.
- Powell’s Books — A full city block of books, three floors of it. Give yourself an hour and you will still walk out with something.
- Japanese Garden — Twelve acres up in Washington Park. The quietest hour you will spend all weekend, and the maples are unreal.
- Oregon Zoo — Sixty-four acres in Washington Park, and one of the oldest zoos in the country. A full afternoon if you let it be.
- Peninsula Park Rose Garden — Oregon’s oldest public rose garden, tucked into a quiet North Portland neighborhood. Free, and usually far less crowded than the one in Washington Park.
- Hoyt Arboretum — A 190-acre living museum of trees with twelve miles of trails, right next to the Japanese Garden. Wear real shoes.
- Mount Tabor Park — An extinct volcano turned neighborhood park in Southeast Portland, with paved paths and one of the best sunset views in the city.
- Timbers Game — Portland’s MLS team plays downtown at Providence Park, and the crowd is half the show. Worth checking the schedule for a home match that weekend.
